Cleaning a tongue piercing.?

I got my tongue pierced on Sunday & I was told by the piercer to use Gly-Oxide twice a day (morning & night) and then to rinse with brand name Listering (mixed 50/50 with water) after eating/smoking/or drinking anything other than water. I was wondering if there was anything less harsh I could do to prevent infection. I feel like my mouth is being over-cleaned because the Listerine is so strong. Any ideas?
